The Sydney couple — 71 and 69 — were travelling in front of their daughter who witnessed the crash about 1.45pm.
The front of the silver Subaru Liberty was extensively damaged, while the trailer being pulled by a Nissan Patrol lost a wheel.
The driver of the Nissan Patrol was a Huon man, 46.
No one was injured.
Wodonga Highway Patrol’s Sen-Constable David Young said the Subaru was headed south on Bonegilla Road and failed to stop at the intersection with a stop sign.
The Subaru collided with the other vehicle’s trailer as it travelled east along the highway.
“There were no injuries but an ambulance checked them out,” he said.
“The Sydney couple will continue their trip with their daughter and they are fully insured.”
Police said the driver would be issued with a traffic infringement notice for failing to obey a stop sign.
The offence incurs a $289 fine and three demerit points.
