NATHAN Mirt has scored his first win as a senior coach, leading Myrtleford to a 4-1 victory at Albury Hotspurs.

After two defeats in the opening rounds it was always going to be tough travelling away.

“I knew we had a chance but I wasn’t expecting 4-1,” Mirt said.

“In the years I’ve been with Myrtleford we’ve always had trouble at their home ground.

“But it was a fantastic first win and fantastic for our confidence as well.

“We’ve got young players coming through and we’re transitioning from last year so we’ve been trying to find formations that work.”

Mirt said Myrtleford used an extra defensive midfielder to plug a hole that had allowed other sides through to goal.

“All our goals were team goals too,” Mirt said.

“As a coach those are the best goals you can get.”

Meanwhile it was something of a training run for Wodonga Diamonds as they slotted 10 goals past St Pat’s in a 2-10 victory.

Skipper Jarrod Herzina was unstoppable and bagged himself a hat-trick as the Diamonds racked up six different goal scorers.
