Each time she is in Albury the issue is raised about the city realising her dream of a multimillion-dollar museum to house her memorabilia.
But the dream appears as far away as ever from fruition.
Certainly Albury mayor Kevin Mack’s concern about the significant financial investment needed is understandable.
The city has its own wish-list of projects, alongside those already under way, and a Margaret Court Museum would have to be prioritised accordingly.
But it does seem a shame a proposal to house and display this collection from a homegrown tennis star, whose achievements are acknowledged worldwide, continues to gather dust — more than 50 years after Mrs Court first won the women’s singles titles in Australia, France, the US and Wimbledon.
It isn’t clear whether there are fewer available investors with the interest and the cash to back such a plan, or there simply isn’t anyone driving the proposal to put to potential investors.
An individual or organisation with the skills to generate public enthusiasm for the museum is definitely needed if it is ever to happen.
