Tomorrow the former Albury schoolboy will have his exploits screened on pay TV.

He’s been to iconic pubs such as Normanton’s Purple Pub and the Humpty Doo Tavern near Darwin and to the classic Aussie watering holes in one-pub towns.

Mr Edgerton, 57, turned his 2012 trip across the country drinking beer into a documentary that will be screened on Foxtel’s Aurora at 8.30pm.

Mr Edgerton, a former mechanic, decided to chuck in his job when he and his wife parted.

“I thought, ‘Am I going to buy another house, get another job, get another woman or do the trip?’ It was a no-brainer,” he said.

“People seem to think that this is nothing more than a glorified pub crawl, and they may be right.

“But it’s fun, you meet a lot of fantastic people and sometimes — not often — you get someone sending you an email and saying thank you for inspiring them.”

He said he bought the 1989 VN Holden Commodore for $150 from a Brisbane auction for the 30-pub tour.

That spawned trips including a 300-day drive around the world.

And there’s more — he’s had about $20,000 in work done to the car.

In July he plans to take the car across continents.

In the spirit of Jules Verne’s famous book, he plans to drive across the US, Europe and over to China in 80 days.

Mr Edgerton doesn’t think he could hold down a 9-5 job again.

“I couldn’t, never ever after last year (when he finished his 300-day trip),” he insisted.
