The council is being asked to dump the game-by-game ticket, aiming to reverse the loss the centre has recorded every year since 2005-06.
The changed payment method is expected to raise $20,000 more for the junior basketball association.
The trade-off for the young basketballers is that the upfront cost would extend to a 19-week season, cutting the overall cost for those who play the entire season plus the two weeks of finals.
But for those youngsters who miss games, their parents would be out of pocket unless they can apply for a refund in the case of injury that forces them off the court.
The upfront payment is proposed from July, in line with a similar charge already levied on senior basketball players and may be introduced for junior netballers.
Most families will be in the situation of having to find the larger amount of money to meet the upfront cost, even if that’s a one-off payment compared with the weekly fee.
The good news is the idea of charging a $2 spectator fee is off the radar.
