Many of them are from the local area.
Others travel from NSW, Victoria, ACT and South Australia to take part in the school.
This year there are 27 year 11 students donning waders and picking up nets to explore the waterways at the Wonga Wetlands.
But that’s only one of the activities they are involved in.
Today the students will tour the Norske Skog plant north of Albury, learning about options for the reuse of waste water.
Some may become our scientists of tomorrow, seeking careers in areas including ecological research and management, which is the focus of their exposure to the Murray River and its aquatic environment.
This week is the 19th year the school has been held, providing participants with a unique experience they would not otherwise enjoy in the classroom.
Congratulations must go to the Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre and Rotary — without their ongoing support the school simply wouldn’t happen.
