I AM appalled at the difference in taxi fares locally as to those in the metropolitan area.

I recently caught a taxi from Thurgoona to the Albury Railway Station and was charged $27.50.
I couldn’t believe I was charged so much, especially when, after arriving in the Melbourne suburb of Essendon and catching a taxi from there to Tullarmarine to catch a plane — a journey far longer than the one I had taken in Albury — I was charged $31.
How can local taxis justify their hefty charge?
