His targets were overseas travellers who were working during the berry harvest in the Tumbarumba region, the Albury Local Court heard yesterday.
Qi Jia Wu, 37, rented out two bedrooms to four Taiwanese nationals — a man and three women.
He got abundant footage of them undressing, showering and visiting the toilet in the shared bathroom-laundry, the court heard.
But his covert perving was discovered when the male visitor borrowed a computer belonging to Wu and found an item titled “new file”.
He played the file, which showed the four being secretly filmed in the bathroom.
The man checked the room and found a clock-radio blue-tacked to the bathroom sink — and a closer look showed a pin-hole video camera.
The footage was put on a USB file and the group took it to police at Tumbarumba.
Police subsequently discovered the recording device and seized Wu’s computer.
Wu, of Lyne Street, Tumbarumba, pleaded guilty yesterday to charges of installing a device to observe or film someone for sexual gratification and four counts of filming a person in a private act.
Magistrate Tony Murray heard the case with a Cantonese interpreter translating proceedings for Wu.
“These are serious matters that bring you before the court,” Mr Murray said when adjourning the case to June for a pre-sentence report.
“There is some risk, and I emphasise the word some, that he will receive a period in custody.”
Mr Murray was told in tendered facts that Wu rents a property with three bedrooms and the bathroom-laundry.
Over summer there is an influx of overseas travellers to help with harvesting berries.
The four victims arrived at Wu’s residence on December 15.
They paid weekly rent of $100 each and left after discovering what had happened.
They took the USB to the police station on January 10.
When police went to Wu’s home, he was absent, but they activated the video camera and found his laptop computer.
It was viewed in the presence of the four victims with six new folder files found which contained 348 movie files of three minutes duration.
Each showed the victims undressing and showering.
Police seized the video recorder and the computer.
