We'll keep building it up all weekend!
BEFORE PlayStation, before Cabbage Patch Kids and even before the hula hoop and frisbee, there were billy carts.
The wheeled racers date from the 1880s, named after the billy goats that once hauled the carts that transported babies.
The latest generation to embrace the thrill of the billy cart will test their skills at Corowa on Saturday.
The Australian Billy Cart Championships will be held in Sanger Street from 10.30am.
Organiser Rachel Minogue said the competition, featuring Corowa schools, would be keenly contested with the high school the champion.
“It comes down to weight — that gives the high school students a bit more momentum,” she said.
“But it’s not about being too competitive — it’s about having a bit of fun rather than being home in front of the PlayStation.”
Entries will be taken on the day. For more, go to australianbillycartchampionships.com.au.
