McQuillan remains in the spinal unit at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, where he continues treatment for the injury sustained in Albury’s round-one clash against Yarrawonga.
Immediately after McQuillan’s injury, the great rivalry between Yarrawonga and Albury became an afterthought as it was clear the only concern for anyone on the field, or at the ground that day, was for the welfare of McQuillan.
Now Yarrawonga gets its chance to lend a hand.
The club will take advantage of its bumper Easter match against Wangar-atta at Mulwala tomorrow to raise funds.
With up to 8000 expected at the game, the Pigeons will have fund-raising buckets at the gate for donations.
Albury vice-president Paul Joss says the support that’s been shown for James is greatly appreciated by his family, who have been overwhelmed.
There’s no doubt footy fans are a big-hearted bunch and whatever their allegiance, they can be counted on to chip in for the cause.
