LAKE Hume is a little calmer than the waters of the Baltic Sea.
But to this German family, who moved to Australia a decade ago, it’s just as good for a holiday.
Hartwig Legenhausen, pictured paddling with his grandson Jamie, 6, said he’d been “exploring this beautiful country ever since”.
“I was boating the whole of my life,” he said.
“Here it’s different.
“You have the landscape, the mountains and calm waters.”
Mr Legenhausen is spending Easter at the lake with his wife, son and daughter, their partners and his five grandchildren.
He said the holiday was similar in Germany, except there the festivities included drinking schnapps with the neighbours as they watched their Christmas trees burn.
The family drove from Melbourne on Monday and will stay for a week.
