The 1994 Morris medallist agreed to lose his trademark mullet and goatie to support the Royal Children’s Hospital where his eight-year-old son Jacob has been treated for a heart condition since he was born.
The fundraiser exceeded expectations with $7300 raised in the lead-up to the Corowa-Rutherglen and Yarrawonga clash at John Foord Oval on Sunday.
The event attracted a big crowd at half-time as Mr Kingston’s mum Nora delivered the first blow to her son’s famous locks.
Mr Kingston, who retired after playing in the Roos’ record-breaking 2000 premiership win, and his wife, Carmel, co-ordinate the appeal in Corowa and Wahgunyah every Good Friday and conduct other fundraisers during the year.
