The four councils of Albury, Wodonga, Corowa and Indigo are collaboratively working on several options to extend the life of the landfill.
One of the ways we hope to increase recycling rates, and therefore decreasing landfill waste, is by offering a 360-litre recycling bin.
As a collective, we are also gradually introducing recycling bins in public places together with cigarette butt containers.
Albury and Wodonga councils have comparable recycling rates.
Figures recently quoted in this newspaper for Wodonga included the statistics from the waste transfer station, which has skewed the comparison with Albury.
The waste transfer station in Wodonga is open to all and receives numerous recyclable materials from residents in other council areas.
This sharing of facilities at both Albury and Wodonga continues to provide good alternatives for the region.
