Daniel McQuilton, of Tangambalanga, will appear in the Albury Local Court today after Wodonga Magistrates Court yesterday ordered his extradition to NSW.

McQuilton, 27, took off his electronic tracking anklet in Sydney last Wednesday, triggering an alarm to Corrective Services staff.

In 2009 he was jailed for three years in NSW over the sexual assault and bashing of a Wodonga dancer in Young Street, Albury, in 2008.

On release, he was placed on an extended supervision order for two years and six months, requiring him to wear the tracking device.

After removing the anklet in Darlinghurst, he allegedly car-jacked the woman at Bondi Junction at 10.15pm, stealing her Mitsubishi Lancer.

His trip to Wodonga came to a crashing halt in London Road on Good Friday when he lost control of the car and hit a tree at 4.30am, later handing himself in to Wodonga police.

McQuilton appeared in custody before magistrate Ian Watkins yesterday on charges of careless driving and failing to report to police, for which he was fined $500 with $110 court costs.

Solicitor Greg Duncan said McQuilton was a diagnosed schizophrenic.

He had wanted to see family in the area and fatigue caused him to crash.

Mr Watkins ordered McQuilton be extradited to NSW and he was taken into custody by Albury detectives.

At the time of his sentencing in 2009, McQuilton begged to be put behind bars.

He told a District Court judge, “I should be locked up for what I did”.

He said he had not intended to sexually assault anyone.

“I had a lot of anger and frustration towards women in particular,” he told the district court.

“I just wanted to release that anger.”
