OutKast is exlcusive to Splendour and will not play sideshows. Kelis and Allen are expected to tour the capital cities although dates have not yet been announced.
Atlanta hip hop duo OutKast, which made a long-awaited comeback when they headlined the huge Coachella music festival in the Colorado desert last week, was the worst-kept secret on the bill having briefly outed themselves on their website.
OutKast has won six Grammy awards including album of the year in 2004 for Speakerboxxx/TheLove Below, which was also one of the year’s biggest selling albums and have also had multiple top 10 hits including the worldwide smash Hey Ya! In 2003. OutKast is made up of Andrew “3000” Benjamin, a rapper, producer and actor who appeared in Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro and played Jimi Hendrix in the biopic All Is By My Side, and rapper/producer Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, 39.
The prodigiously-talented New Yorker Kelis Rogers, , 34, is best known for two electic pop singles early in her career, Milkshake and Caught Out There and a string of genre-hopping albums. Her latest, Food, is well-received soulful pop record that should be perfect for live performances.
She also dated Pharrell and married renowned MC Nas.
Londoner Allen, 28, is a pop singer with a sweet vocal style and an outspoken public persona who has had three number one singles in the UK and two studio albums, both of which have gone platinum worldwide. Her 2009 album It’s Not Me, It’s You topped the charts here and went four times platinum. Her third album Sheezus, the title of which parodies Kanye West’s Yeezus, is out next month.
Australians in the bill include chart-topping hip hop artists 360 and Illy, Hottest 100 winner Vance Joy, beloved veterans Spiderbait and the Hoodoo Gurus, The Jezabels, The Preatures, Peking Duk and Gossling.
Other notable international names at the top of the bill include ethereal indie pop trio London Grammar; Scottish synthpop leaders CHVRCHES; American actress/model and synth-pop singer Sky Ferreira (who supported Miley Cyrus on her Bangerz tour); eccentric American rapper Danny Brown; US indie three-piece Foster The People whose 2010 hit Pumped Up Kicks topped the charts here; American indie rock band Interpol and Irish band Two Door Cinema Club.
Splendour in the Grass is on from July 25 to 27 at North Byron Parklands in Byron Bay.
