And the Humans verses Zombies battle at Albury’s Hovell Tree Park was definitely a battle of survival.
About 40 school children — 20 of them zombies — faced off as part of some holiday fun hosted by the Albury Council.
And using your wits was the name of the game during the largest competition of tag on the Border.
Survivors had to escape the touch of a zombie to avoid turning into one.
“You have to try not to get hit,” Melissa, 12, said.
“I got turned into a zombie but that was only because I was double-crossed.”
Council learning and outreach officer Hannah Mitchell said the game was a great opportunity for children who played video games to get out of the house and run around.
“It appeals to them because they see zombies and the apocalypse in their games,” she said.
“It’s a totally different world.”
Melissa already has an escape plan if zombies take over the world.
“I’ll get on my bike and ride three times as fast and hide in a bunker,” she said.
Melissa said the game was an “awesome” idea.
“It gives us things to do in the holidays when parents can’t take you somewhere,” she said.
From a family of seven children, Melissa said bowling and the movies were activities that were too expensive.
“Anyone can come to this, though,” she said.
