And what a show it will be, with the visiting Victorian Speedcar fraternity, the Crash and Bash Association, hot off its Victorian title where 20-plus cars put in plenty of bump and grind to work their way around to the finish.
Throw in GP Midgets, Goulburn Ovens Sedans Association, local categories and a demolition derby to close the evening, and fans are going to be treated to some real fireworks.
The Speedcars have a small yet talented field of racers, including Dave May who stepped out of Dirt Modifieds, Mark Brown from Sydney who will have a go in a Victorian car, Daniel Newnham from Sprintcars jumping into a midget, Robbie Gordon who won the Victorian Compact Speedcar title at Wangaratta this season, and this year’s Southern Speedcar Tour winner Troy Jordan who will be the one to beat hot on his form for 2013-14.
The crash and bash has 20 nominations listed, with Brendan Miller, Karl Haisma and Lenny Bonnici among the front runners. Miller is trying to score enough points to win the season aggregate for the division, while the rest of the guys and girls will be looking to stop him in his tracks.
The event starts with a gentle nudge, side swipe and spin in the heats, before upping the ante in the final trying to get the win.
Heading the field in the demolition derby is Wangaratta’s Leanne Cowell who will be competing in her first derby alongside partner Kyle Styles.
It will be a battle between the two to see who can take the other out in the running for the $1000 first place cash.
Father and son duo John and Kyle Patton and fellow Wangaratta drivers David Dyball and Stuart Densem are also in with a show.
The running of the Wangaratta Cup for Grand Prix Midgets has attracted a strong field which includes Australia’s and Victoria’s top three drivers from this season’s titles.
Gates open at 10am with the first race at 2pm.
