And the best dressed, best racing breed and dog-owner look-alike will all strut the catwalk.
“It’s all a bit of a laugh,” organiser Karie Lowe said yesterday.
“Dogs are people’s favourite thing in this town, so why not give them their own day?”
The event will be held at the Howlong Country Golf Club.
All festival favourites return, including the doggie fashion parade and the brute to ute dog race, pitting pairs of dogs against each other to see which one can get in the back of a ute first.
The ultimate winner of the brute to ute will be crowned the Howlong Hownd.
And a “Putts in May” competition will land the person with the least putts a prize.
Mrs Lowe said the date of the event had been changed to run in conjunction with the town’s successful monthly market.
“From now on, it’s one big day with the market,” she said.
The market kicks off at 8am and the mutt events from 10.30am.
