Despite playing just six games in the competition since crossing from South Australia, O’Hara said he was always keen to play against the Hampden league.
The midfield ace has taken the league by storm since joining the Tigers from SANFL heavyweight Central District.
“Coming to a new competition I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet some blokes from around the league and you always want to play at the best level you can,” O’Hara, 26, said.
“I played in the SANFL side last year and that was a good experience.
“I wanted to get to know some other people and play with the guys you’re normally playing against.”
O’Hara, who will help lead Brendan Fevola’s star-studded on-ball division this afternoon, said he had been impressed by the standard at training and in the first six rounds.
“It’s been really good and the boys are great,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
O’Hara, who won Central District’s best and fairest award last season, said he took plenty out of Laurie Burt’s address to the players after training on Thursday night.
The Ovens and Murray Hall of Fame member, who coached Wangaratta Rovers to four premierships, spoke to the interleague squad for about 10 minutes after their final session.
He told them how much the league’s reputation meant to people involved.
“Listening to a guy like that makes you realise what it means to them and I’ll take that on board and play the best I can,” O’Hara said.
“I just want to play my role and see what happens.”
