Mr Piccoli has opposed the move, defending his view in the media last week as reflecting that of his constituents who he said had made it clear they don’t want the infrastructure sold.
He said he wouldn’t support either the sale or the partial sale of poles and wires in his electorate even if a sell-off was undertaken in suburban Sydney.
But Mr Aplin said the NSW government should be considering the sale if it was deemed to be of benefit to the region.
He said he hadn’t received any feedback from his own constituents but if there were no job losses or major price increases likely as a result, then the issue should be debated.
The Liberal and National parties will today discuss the government’s plan to sell off 49 per cent of the state’s electricity networks at a joint party room meeting, ahead of the state’s June 17 budget with a union campaign calling for a referendum ahead of any decision.
