Trent Duffy had to stay on the ground until a paramedic stretchered him off Kelly Park almost an hour after the incident.

Duffy suffered the injury during a tackle in Albury City’s match against Twin City on Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened about 3.45pm, resulting in an immediate calling of half-time.

But the match was not able to be resumed until more than an hour later, under lights, as only paramedics were allowed to take him off the ground.

Association president Craig McDonald said he had no knowledge of the specific incident involving Duffy.

Nevertheless, Mr McDonald said the association would have done everything required of it under FIFA rules.

“Our priority is always player safety — that is paramount in everyone’s minds,” he said.

“That’s just logical and goes without saying.”

Mr McDonald said everything in such a situation was in the match referee’s control.

“The referees work under the FIFA guidelines,” he said.

“I would have to assume that the referees just applied the FIFA rules.”

Ambulance Victoria group manager Matt Chadban said a call was made on Sunday at 3.59pm, with a report of a man suffering a leg injury.

Mr Chadban said this was confirmed to be a fractured leg when paramedics arrived at Kelly Park 15 minutes after the call.

“While it was a busy period with multiple ambulances with patients or at hospital, a MICA paramedic was dispatched to assess the patient and provide initial pain relief and treatment,” he said.

“The paramedic reached the ground at 4.14pm and provided pain relief, splinted his leg and the player was stretchered from the ground.”

Mr Chadban said the next available ambulance was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 5.11pm.

Duffy was then taken to Wodonga hospital in a stable condition.

Mr McDonald said he could not comment further without knowing the circumstances.

He said what was most important though was that “everything was good with the player”.

Twin City won 6-0.
