They may believe the memorial belongs in a cemetery, as evidenced by their removal of crosses dedicated to Emily and Brooke Salske and motorcyclist Matthew Bounds.
However, they should accept the families of all three have placed the memorials on Baranduda Boulevard, with the approval of the authorities.
Police are now asking people to be respectful of the memorial sites and understand their place in allowing families and friends to deal with their grief.
While it is true these memorials do also exist in cemeteries, there is obviously a connection for loved ones with the locations where these crash victims have died.
Provided those roadside memorials are in an appropriate spot and are kept tidy, there appears to be no reason why they shouldn’t be there.
If someone has a different point of view, they should contact the police or VicRoads to object and not simply take it upon themselves to damage or remove the memorial.
