The Murray River Derby Dames will put on their skates for a two-hour skate-a-thon to raise money for the SIDS and Kids Foundation.
“It’s actually part of an Australia-wide initiative and we have jumped on board,” team captain Renae Schilg said.
“It’s such a great cause and we may even pick up some new players.”
The fund-raiser will be held at the Albury PCYC from 6pm. It will include a barbecue and bake sale.
Women from all walks of life take part in the roller derby — a roller-skating contact sport that involves getting opponents out of the way with safe and effective moves and scoring points over two halves.
Miss Schilg, known in the derby world as “Pyretta Blaze”, has been playing the sport for more than four years.
“It’s fast paced and exhilarating — that’s why I love it,” Miss Schilg said.
