The 22-year-old yesterday came to the end of a three-year fight against the cancer first diagnosed as a sarcoma in his neck in April 2011.
Between his diagnosis and his final moments at home with his family, Braedon won admiration among sporting peers, friends and the wider Border community.
Even when doctors told Braedon in March last year the cancer had returned, he contacted St Patrick’s cricket coach Heath Naughton, assuring him he would be right to play with the club during the finals.
In February this year, a gutsy performance by Braedon, who top-scored for St Patrick’s with 73, helped his side get over the top of Albury — he had arrived at the crease with St Patrick’s at 3-38 and victory a long way off.
Braedon may have been facing surgery after the finals, and may have been feeling unwell, but he never let it get in the way of participating or supporting his team.
Even last weekend he was supporting his footy mates at Henty.
His family have lost a beloved son and brother and as Naughton says, the world has lost a warrior.
