The 18-carat ring with a silver and gold band has been handed into tip staff.
Albury Council waste management team leader Andrea Baldwin said the rare find in the garden waste area should have a happy ending given the inscription on the ring: “Love Denise 15/1/2011”.
She said a man had previously contacted council after losing his wedding ring at the tip and had returned to search, but was unable to locate it.
“It is quite muddy out here at the moment and it is quite astounding you could actually find something so small in there,” she said.
“It is definitely a wedding ring.
“The gentleman who did ask some time ago said he had lost his wedding ring.
“We think he could be a middle-aged person.”
Ms Baldwin said the garden waste area was one of the most used areas of the tip.
Heavy machinery was used there frequently but the ring survived that.
“It is quite amazing it has been found and it has also been handed in,” she said.
The ring owner has been asked to contact the council by phoning (02) 6023 8111.
