The parents ran to help her and discovered a stranger was in their Lavington home and the back door was open.
The stranger was described as a male about 20 years old with dark skin, a moustache and wearing a red and black cap.
Inspector Anthony Moodie said yesterday the scenario sent a chill down most people’s spines.
Police were appealing for information.
He said a number of crimes had happened recently in the same area as the home, near Condon Place and Worsley Place, including the theft of a whipper snipper.
Anybody who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the weekend should phone Albury police on (02) 6023 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
