ALBURY
PRESIDENT GAVAN SCHULTZ
Does the O&M need to bring in equalisation measures?
“No. Things go in cycles.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“You can’t compare crowds from different years. It’s been raining every home game we’ve had, and I mean every home game. The quality of players is high, the league had it’s biggest interleague win, so I can’t see too much wrong.”
COROWA-RUTHERGLEN
PRESIDENT RAY McLARTY
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“Yes we do. Our board has discussed it and we’re unanimous that something needs to be done, otherwise there won’t be a competition.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“Good on Albury and Yarra. But personally, the cycle we’ve got now isn’t natural. Sides aren’t having their year or two at the top and then somebody else comes up. The rest of us need hope.”
LAVINGTON
PRESIDENT PETER BARWICK
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“As a club, it’s something we haven’t discussed at committee level.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“Well, it’s a bit lopsided, isn’t it?”
MYRTLEFORD
PRESIDENT BILL O’DONOHUE
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“It hasn’t been discussed at board level. I don’t know what the answer is.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“There is two divisions, isn’t there? I wish we were in first division.”
NORTH ALBURY
PRESIDENT MARK CRONIN
Does the O&M need to bring in equalisation measures?
“It’s not something we’ve discussed at committee level. But in my personal view, these things work themselves out over time.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“It’s unfortunate that it’s one-sided. But as I said, it’s not so long ago Albury was complaining about North Albury.”
WANGARATTA
PRESIDENT COL McCLOUNAN
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“I think there’s things that certainly need to be looked at. We’d be rapt to be part of any discussion.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“We’ve got nothing against what clubs like Albury have been doing. They have raised the bar, but it’s unsustainable for everybody else, which is the worry.”
WANGARATTA ROVERS
PRESIDENT ANDREW SMITH
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“For the longevity of the competition, absolutely. The current format is unsustainable.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“The gap between the top and bottom is too big. That’s where it’s at. That’s not going to change if something isn’t done.”
WODONGA
COACH BEN HOLLANDS
(club president Richard Bence is overseas)
Does the O&M need to bring in equalisation measures?
“I think we can all see it needs to be looked at, definitely. But I don’t think it’s just our league. Every competition seems to be similar and it’s something that needs to be looked into across the board.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“It’s pretty uneven. Seven of the 10 clubs would have gone into this year not optimistic about their chances of winning a premiership. Is that healthy? I wouldn’t have thought so.”
WODONGA RAIDERS
PRESIDENT NIC CONWAY
Does the o&m need to bring in equalisation measures?
“There’s no doubt. But not necessarily because of what’s happening at the top, but at the bottom. Every club needs to be relevant.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“The top sides are as good as they’ve been in the competition’s history, but it’s not healthy.”
YARRAWONGA
PRESIDENT GLENN BREAR
Does the O&M need to bring in equalisation measures?
“That’s not for me to determine. I’ve got a book of opinions, but the board runs the league.”
How would you describe the current state of the O&M?
“We’re told by the O and M everyone is an equal sharer of the competition when it comes to revenue and hosting finals, so if that’s the case, tell me where the unfairness is?”
