LA Trobe University has secured gold on home turf.
Yesterday the Southern University Games officially ended with La Trobe finishing first out of the 15 universities and TAFEs.
Australian University Sport business development manager Fiona Cullen said most people would have thought the outcome was predictable.
“They win a lot of the events but this is one they’d like to put their stamp on,” she said.
“The hosts have become the victors and it’s very fitting.”
Ms Cullen said organisers expected the event on the Border wouldn’t attract big numbers.
“It has been quite the opposite,” she said.
“The Border games have been really incredible and it has been the largest number we’ve had for the Southern Games.”
La Trobe University also took home the Hugh McKechnie per capita trophy.
Ms Cullen said the miserable weather didn’t affect the games.
“Everyone made the most of it,” she said.
Ms Cullen praised the Border community.
The Southern University Games are set to be held in Adelaide next year.
