Gilson hit back at Bill Deery after the Cudgewa coach last week questioned whether Corryong lacked leadership under Reid and would be better off under former coach Evan Nicholas.
The classy midfielder said the accusations couldn’t be further from the truth after the Demons’ inflicted a 59-point thumping of defending premier Tumbarumba on Saturday.
“After what was said in the paper last week we all wanted to get behind Reidy to show our support,” Gilson said.
“I think what Cudgewa coach Bill Deery said was a long, long way from the truth.
“So we went into the match wanting so show a bit of support for Reidy which I think we were able to do.”
The Demons opened up a 13-point buffer at the first change and were never seriously challenged as they waltzed to a 14.6 (90) to 3.13 (31) victory.
Gilson was instrumental in setting up the victory with his clever ball use in the trying conditions including hail in the second term.
Howlong recruit Troy Cooper was also damaging in his best game since joining the Demons.
The livewire has only played five matches and looms an X-factor in September with his ability on the big stage.
Russell Anderson also led the way with a faultless display across half-back and was instrumental in restricting the Roos to just three goals.
The third-placed Demons now face second-placed Bullioh in a clash to determine who will be the biggest threat to Cudgewa in September.
In other matches Cudgewa forwards Brendan McEvoy and Ben Hall combined for 10 goals in the Blues’ 105-point thumping of Federal.
Bullioh overcame a slow start to eventually down Border-Walwa by 53 points.
