Member for Albury Greg Aplin yesterday announced Mr Baird would make his first visit to Albury as Premier.

Mr Baird replaced Barry O’Farrell in the position in mid-April.

Mr O’Farrell confirmed the funding for the $4 million replacement ambulance station when he made his only visit as premier in 2012.

It has been operating since the middle of last month and Mr Aplin said he had submitted its opening to the Premier’s office for approval as one of his official engagements on July 31.

Mr Baird had made a previous commitment to visit Albury in his role as treasurer and honoured the pledge despite taking over as Premier.

“He wants to see what has been achieved,” Mr Aplin said.

“Normally there is a settling in period and clearly the (ambulance station opening) is one of the suggestions.

“Premiers are invited down to see what exists and talk about the issues and future.”

Mr Baird will arrive on the afternoon of July 31 and stay overnight before returning to Sydney the following morning.

Mr Aplin said the visit would be confined to Albury and there would be an opportunity to meet with local mayors.

“There will certainly be an opportunity for business leaders and community leaders to meet with Mr Baird,” Mr Aplin said.

“Time always determines how many meetings one can have.

“His time will be more limited than it would have been as treasurer.”

Mr O’Farrell and members of his cabinet came to Albury in 2012 for a community forum and meeting, but the event was cut short when winter fog played havoc with flights.

Mayors and industry leaders were the big losers when one-on-one meetings with the Premier were abandoned.
