CAMERON Burns’ search for specialist goalkeeper coaching has uncovered a bonus for all keepers on the Border.
Melbourne’s Premier Football Tuition was involved with Wodonga Diamonds, but in the past two years the group has held monthly sessions on the Border.
Burns said a core group of 27 were in a program that focused on skills as well as health and nutrition — and even pilates.
“We were lucky a few of the senior keepers at Albury City were willing to help out the young kids and I think that happens at most clubs,” he said.
“But we wanted more, a tailored program.
“Everyone recognises the skill and training required to be good in the field and those skills are quite different to the demands of being a keeper.
“The improvement was in the confidence levels of these kids and now there is marked improvement in their technical ability.
“PFT has three at the Victorian Institute of Sport, one at the Australian Institute of Sport, eight in national training squads and multiple members in state teams.”
