The awards will be presented in Sydney on August 20 by peak body The Newspaper Works.
More than 1000 entries were submitted to the awards covering newspapers, digital publishing, photography, print and production, marketing and advertising.
The Border Mail is among 11 finalists in the regional daily Newspaper of the Year award, alongside the Newcastle Herald, Illawarra Mercury, Ballarat Courier, Bendigo Advertiser, Otago Daily Times, Cairns Post, Gold Coast Bulletin, Northern Advocate, Rotorua Daily Post and Geelong Advertiser.
Categories for the awards have been changed this year with the elimination of segmentation based on circulation.
The Border Mail had previously been the 2012 and 2013 Newspaper of the Year in the 10,000 to 25,000 circulation category.
The judges again remarked on the outstanding quality of journalism.
An associated company, Border Mail Printing, is among four finalists in the double-width technical excellence category for print production.
