But that has been virtually impossible since the 18-year-old scored six tries in the reigning Group 9 rugby league premier’s 66-16 win against Temora on Sunday.
“The boys have been stirring me up a bit about it,” Hampton joked yesterday.
“I just worked off the back of my centres.
“Chris Seaton gave me a few good balls and so did big Joe (Silafu).”
Hampton, who is the brother of star Albury footballer Lonnie, became the first Albury Thunder player to score six tries in Group 9 after crossing the line in the 27th, 34th, 37th, 56th, 61st and 76th minutes.
It is believed leading Border physiotherapist Scott Hargrave scored nine and eight tries while playing for Albury Blues in Group 13.
Hampton played several first grade matches off the bench last season before becoming a regular member of Josh Cale’s line-up this year.
He has scored 11 tries with only Ben Jeffery and Daniel Jacobs having more.
“It’s just good playing in a good side,” he said.
Albury Thunder sits on top on the ladder with four matches remaining and play Brothers on Sunday.
