But the question remains whether he should be making more time available to give the region’s mayors and council managers the chance to raise their burning issues with one-on-one meetings.
Our civic leaders will have to attend either a Liberal Party dinner on Thursday night or a business breakfast organised by the Albury Northside chamber of commerce the next day for an opportunity to meet Mr Baird.
It’s hardly surprisingly that arrangement has disappointed mayors desperate to discuss their domestic issues with Mr Baird.
And the wave of criticism from former Labor candidate and Albury councillor Darren Cameron, who has accused the Liberals of selling access to Mr Baird was predictable.
The claim was dismissed by the member for Albury, Greg Aplin, as “nonsense”, and he said the mayors and managers had been invited to both functions but there simply wouldn’t be time for private meetings.
Mr Aplin would do well to encourage his leader to visit again soon and give our leaders the time they crave.
