In the past 12 years, this annual event has raised $2.25 million for the Cancer Council NSW, making it the second largest Relay for Life in the entire country.
Last year alone, the Border raised $460,000 and attracted 3500 participants.
Those figures are worthy of applause, but none of it would be possible without the efforts not only of the Border Relay for Life committee, but each and every person in Albury-Wodonga who has ever taken part.
Cancer is an illness that just about every person in the community has known in some way, whether it be a personal battle or standing by a friend or family member fighting their own.
Events like the Border Relay for Life, and the passionate people involved, help us celebrate the survivor stories and fondly remember those lost to this insidious illness — and every dollar raised will hopefully bring us one step closer to a cure.
So form a team and tie those laces, and we’ll see you at Birallee Park for this year’s event in October.
