The member for Albury, Greg Aplin, says he supports clinical trials before any possible legalising of cannabis for medicinal purposes.

That would seem to be the sensible approach.

One would have to very unsympathetic to be against the use of cannabis in such circumstances as for people with a terminal illness.

It is a matter of priority that such people are given the opportunity to ease their pain in any way that is available to them.

If cannabis is a drug that would ease the burden of pain for people, there should be no reason for any reasonably minded person to take issue.

Concerns about supply and regulation do have to be addressed.

But with the right approach, that can surely be possible and a common sense approach, with all factors considered, is the way forward.

Clinical trials would seem to be the logical next step.
