After leading at every change, the Tigers held off their fast-finishing opponents in a frenetic final 10 minutes. The win was enough to virtually seal the minor premiership with three rounds to play.
Wingman Jordan Bradley was outstanding for the victors while Matt Robinson and Karl Norman won plenty of possessions in the midfield and Max Scott repelled plenty of attacking moves from half-back.
“We were happy with the win,” Robinson said.
“The conditions were good and it was a pretty physical game.
“We were up by three or four goals half way through the last quarter but they kicked a couple of late ones to close it up.”
Glenrowan is now four points clear of Milawa on top of the ladder and should be untroubled against Benalla All Blacks, Goorambat and North Wangaratta in the countdown to the finals.
While the Demons lost this important battle, they were far from disgraced.
Gun forward Steve Williamson led the way with three goals.
He started at centre half-forward but moved deeper into attack after injuring himself He still managed to have a major impact on the match.
Anthony McGuire, John Conroy and Brandon Ryan also played well for the home team.
Tarrawingee underlined the difference between the top three and chasing pack by thrashing Bright by 46 points at Tarrawingee.
The Bulldogs broke the match open in the second term when Thomas Lay, Daniel McCormick and Finton Eames were able to get their hands on the ball and push it forward to Dylan Landgren and Hamish Moore.
They kicked 11 goals between them while Bright’s only real avenue to goal was Ricky Weimer.
Benalla All Blacks accounted for North Wangaratta, Bonnie Doon held Goorambat goal-less, Moyhu defeated Greta and Whorouly were too strong for King Valley.
