AT 62 years of age and having attained two university degrees since turning 55, yet I have to confess that I have learnt possibly more through social media in the past couple of years than in an entire lifetime when it comes to current affairs and historical facts.

Twitter, in particular, provides incredible access to reports from all over the world and domestically that would otherwise remain invisible to the public.
The quality of the journalism is high, the vast majority of reports are ethical and most articles are backed by facts.
So I couldn’t help wondering why so many excellent journalists appear on the outside of mainstream media reporting.
Then, the more I read and researched, the clearer the answer has become.
They are too ethical in their endeavours of seeking truth and exhibit high moral values. They therefore don’t fit big media controlled by vested interests.
They are the true defenders of democracy and right over wrong from a journalistic context.
Governments like the Abbott mob don’t like them and threaten their ability to speak out freely and democratically — note the media blackout on asylum seekers.
The blatant attempts by mainstream media to hold Tony Abbott and Julia Bishop up as heroes of the MH17 downing is highly distorted and a deliberate distraction from domestic affairs.
