Cindy Farmer was asleep inside her Logan Road home at North Albury when she was woken by an explosion about 2.30am.
Flames leapt from the red Toyota LandCruiser and came within metres of a tree and powerlines.
“It shook my whole house,” Mrs Farmer said.
“It felt like someone put dynamite at the front of the house, it felt like an earthquake.
“It felt humongous.”
The force of the explosion blew out the vehicle’s windows and left shattered glass nearby.
Police are treating the blaze as suspicious.
Mrs Farmer said she had feared for the safety of her two daughters, aged five and one.
“It makes me feel like this place is not safe, and to have that feeling in your own home is not a nice feeling,” she said.
“It’s not nice to have to make sure you shut your gates every night and feel like you need a security system.
“I’d like to feel safe, not threatened each night if you hear a noise.”
Mrs Farmer said the car fire followed other incidents near or at her home during the four years she has lived there.
“My sister lives next door and she had an intruder walk into her son’s bedroom in the middle of the day, I’ve had a ball bearing put through my front window, we’ve had someone prowling in our yard, we’ve also had someone try to break into our car,” she said.
“We’ve had fights in the middle of the street where my husband, Josh, has had to come out and call the police, and someone got knocked out across the road.
“It keeps us on our toes.”
Mrs Farmer’s husband had heard noises in the street about half an hour before the fire and spotted three men fleeing the scene.
She said the explosion “woke up half the neighbourhood”.
The explosion occurred about 100 metres from Glenroy Public School.
Albury police are seeking information on the incident and can be contacted on (02) 6023 9299.
