Emma Hargreaves, 23, started as a foster carer 12 months ago and has since taken on the roles of publicity officer and fund-raising co-ordinator.

Miss Hargreaves is one of four finalists vying for the Cleanaway Animalia Eco Warrior Award.

“To win would be a real honour, not only for me, but the group,” she said.

“It would help get our name out there and maybe attract new foster carers.”

The Wodonga Council initiative recognises the contributions of young people and the difference they make in the community.

A total of 63 nominations were received across nine categories, with 37 finalists chosen.

“The awards are an opportunity for young people to be publicly acknowledged and applauded for the many positive contributions they make to our city,” Wodonga mayor Rodney Wangman said.

Winners will be named at a dinner at The Cube tomorrow from 6.30pm.
