The association wants those who breach an intervention or family violence order three times to wear an electronic bracelet and abide by no-go zones.
It seems like a great idea, although giving perpetrators three chances is far too kind.
Domestic violence is an issue that continues to challenge our society.
The statistics are out of control — it cuts across every community and every demographic.
It ties up police resources, an inordinate amount of court time and too often has deadly consequences.
It is time to take a tougher approach and introduce some serious consequences for domestic violence offenders.
While early intervention is a great thing, police and welfare agencies can’t possibly hope to cope with the demand for their services.
The priority simply must be to keep victims safe, by whatever means available.
Breaking the cycle of domestic violence is a priority too, but we owe our best efforts to protecting the victims.
