Yesterday the case became the longest unsolved homicide in NSW to result in an arrest with the extradition of South Australian man, Colin Michael Newey.
Last night he was charged with Bronwynne’s abduction, sexual assault and murder.
Those charges are yet to be proven in a court.
However, for the Richardson family, the arrest and charges are a step towards the case potentially being solved.
Since Bronwynne’s disappearance in Albury on October 12, 1973, while waiting for a lift back to Corowa, two inquests had determined the former Miss Corowa Showgirl was attacked and abducted, taken to or near Horseshoe Lagoon and physically and sexually assaulted before she was strangled and her body dumped in the Murray River.
NSW Police Homicide commander Detective Superintendent Mick Willing says Bronwynne lost her life under horrific and violent circumstances and the pain of such a crime would remain with her loved ones forever.
