Well known as one of the Three Nonnas who shared their skills in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Mrs Sartori was also a dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother.
The devastation that took her life also took away her final passion — the historic Whitfield general store, which she had planned to turn it into her “dream” regional produce store.
Despite their heartbreak, Mrs Sartori’s family decided a few months later that they would continue her legacy through rebuilding the store.
It would have been quite easy for them to walk away.
Mrs Sartori’s influence was, after all, still felt strongly throughout the surrounding valley.
Son Steve and his wife, Jessica, should be congratulated on taking what was no doubt a daunting journey to resurrect the store.
And the turnout for the opening at the weekend showed they have taken the right step.
The support is already there for the new venture, which bodes well for the future.
