ALBURY High School’s under-15 girls are into the last 16 of the Bill Turner Trophy after winning a penalty shoot-out against Marian College Griffith last Friday. Today at midday they will play Bathurst’s McKillop College at Glen Park for a place in the quarter-finals. Coach Guy Fahey said it was an outstanding achievement.
“More than 400 schools from Queensland to Melbourne take part,” he said. “The girls were outstanding and Sarah Hendriks, Isabelle Claxton, Maya Davis, Christina Stefanou and Chelsea Blissett stepped up and slotted goals in the shootout after scores were locked at 1-1 at the end of regular time. All of them play soccer, which is a far cry from the old days when we roped in anyone with sporting ability.”
