Video referee Steve Clark will be in the box for the blockbuster clash between South Sydney and Manly on Friday night despite controversially failing to award the Bulldogs a try to Tim Lafai against Penrith last week.

Hasler was frustrated after Clark and ex-Tigers premiership winner Ben Galea disallowed Lafai's try – incorrectly, according to referees' boss Tony Archer – after overturning the decision of on-field refs Matt Cecchin and Dave Munro.

Following several phone calls to Archer this week, Hasler has a solution to fix the officialdom woes.

“The simple scenario is the bunker,” Hasler said. “We’ve been hearing about the bunker [for a while] now. It’s hard for referees because they can’t get hold of the vision, which seems strange in a game that involves a billion dollars.

“The NRL is aware of it and they are the little things they need to fix up. I think you’d find a lot of the frustration removed – not just from coaches and players – but also the fans. Hopefully that’s the way forward.

“If you get the bunker system you’ll get the [captain’s] challenge system.”

Clark will also oversee the Dragons and Panthers clash on Sunday while Galea will be in New Zealand for the Warriors game against Cronulla.

Hasler said his biggest gripe was when video referees overturned a decision only for it to be proven that the on-field referee was correct.

“Tony Archer came out and said they got it wrong,” Hasler said of the Lafai try. “That’s about as much joy as you want. He said there’d be accountability but they didn’t get dropped or anything. I see Steve Clark has the No.1 game and Galea is doing another game.”

Of more immediate concern for Hasler is trying to get his side back to winning form. The Bulldogs have fallen to fifth on the competition ladder after three consecutive losses.

They play a Brisbane side on Friday night trying to keep their finals hopes alive.

“The last two weeks we’ve been in relatively good control of the game or parts of the game,” Hasler said. “Our inability to stay in the game for its duration [is the problem]. Last week it was coupled with 43 per cent possession and 65 per cent completion. At any stage, that’s not acceptable, particularly this time of year. The boys are aware of that. We need to get into that set-for-set [grind].

“We don’t let it get to a point of frustration. We know there is no point looking at the draw or other sides, it’s a matter of fronting up and winning each game that’s put in front of you.”

The Bulldogs will be boosted by the return of Josh Morris and Aiden Tolman. Former Canterbury fullback Ben Barba will play against his former side for the second time having helped Brisbane to a 18-12 win in round one.

“Ben is always a threat no matter what form he is in,” Hasler said. “He is blessed with that raw speed and is a strong person to handle one-on-one.”
