It has been a meteoric rise for Cartwright since he left Brett Cavanough’s stables in 2012 and joined the Geelong partnership of Jamie Edwards and Bruce Elkington.
With 1354 starts, 125 wins, 128 seconds and 144 thirds, Cartwright’s career is booming despite a fractured thumb in April outing him for three months.
He returned to notch a city winner at Moonee Valley on Down The Hatch for Robbie Griffiths.
Last month he was selected for an International Apprentices race for Arabian horses in California.
“It was a terrific opportunity for me to race in the States and experience an international meeting,” Cartwright said.
“I rubbed shoulders with a lot of people and have been invited to Dubai in November.”
Cartwright attended Albury Public, Trinity and St Paul’s Colleges before joining Racing Victoria’s Apprentice school.
His younger sister, Georgina, recently joined her brother in Geelong as a strapper and is also hoping to gain entry to the apprentice school.
