Broadway Diamond made a winning debut for Aldridge after he resumed from a 29-week spell to score in a maiden at Gundagai this month.
It was the five-year-old gelding’s first victory from his sixth start after crossing from the stables of Warwick Farm-based trainer Jarrod Austin.
Aldridge said he couldn’t fault Broadway Diamond since his first-up performance.
“He has shown his fair share of ability since arriving at the stable and we were fairly confident of winning at Gundagai after he trialled nicely at Narrandera in the lead-up,” Aldridge said.
“It wasn’t an overly strong field he beat at Gundagai and he was always going to struggle if he couldn’t win a race like that.
“But he got the job done and I’ve been happy with his work since.
“Yes, he is stepping up in class today, but it’s not a huge step and after having a quick glance it doesn’t look an overly strong race again on paper.
“And although he is going up in class and distance I expect him to be in the finish again.”
In-form hoop Mathew Cahill retains the mount on Broadway Diamond who is quoted the $4 equal favourite with the Pat Widdup-trained Lady Henrietta.
Cahill should be able to get a good position after drawing barrier two.
