The story goes that when the Southern Inland Rugby asked who wanted to host the second-last week, there were no takers so the Steamers stepped in. Now they are likely to be the venue for deciding the “other” grand finalist next Saturday.
The sting in the tale is for retiring captain Nathan Bright.
The Steamers gave their No. 8 a rousing send-off at the “last” home game a few weeks back with acc-olades befitting someone who had died rather than just hanging up the boots.
A sheepish Bright said perhaps it was the perfect handover for heir apparent Richard Manion.
“But a lot must happen before that happens, including beating CSU,” he said.
