About 400 people taking part in the Variety Dick Smith Brisbane to Busby’s Bore Bash arrived on the Border yesterday.
The event aims to raise $8 million for Variety to support sick children.
Event manager Stuart Telfer said 108 colourful “bash cars” had made the journey to Albury-Wodonga with support of 25 event vehicles, including five workshops, a B-double, helicopter and a plane.
The participants congregated at Bonegilla, including one man who grew up at the migrant camp.
Max Squires, who has been taking part in the drive — this year covering 4992 kilometres — for 15 years said there was one big reason why he supported the cause.
“I got involved because it’s a children’s charity,” he said.
“Many people I started doing it with many years ago are still involved.”
About 600 cars will cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge tomorrow, which will be followed by a dinner for 2000 people.
