THE figures speak for themselves — in the past three years, Wodonga pound has gone from having to euthanase 90 per cent of lost or abandoned dogs, to 90 per cent rehomed.
And much of that amazing turnaround has been attributed to the formation of Wodonga Dog Rescue and the tireless work of its volunteers.
But, as with many volunteer organisations, it relies on the kindness of strangers, surviving only on donations of cash or pet supplies and the help of foster carers.
The rescue has already faced several challenges in its operation this year, including almost having to close its cat rehoming program due to an increase in fees to get the animals desexed.
And last year, the Victorian government knocked back an application for funding to run a lifesaving parvovirus vaccination program.
Now you can get behind a worthwhile community group, with the dog rescue hosting an adoption day on August 30.
For those who might be considering bringing a pet into their home, perhaps this is a good time to consider adopting rather than buying — particularly considering these dogs and cats are already desexed, registered and vaccinated.
With so many animals looking for a loving home, why not help our furry friends out?
